Hope this would be a lesson to all. The next time you are intent on orchestrating a pinky-and-the-brain takeover of a local NGO, please be clever enough to hold secret meetings in your homes or in dark alleys behind your church building.
Mass email is a no no and praying for God’s guidance to steer the email to the chosen few is plain wishful thinking. Printing “PRIVATE & CONFIDENTIAL” on the top really doesn’t do anything as well.
I will reprint the emails in their entirety, or at least as I found them, for posterity sake. Afterall, if you cannot share private and confidential information, life would be too boring.
But first I shall highlight some choice quotes:
Thio Su Mien – “Unfortunately, I cannot surface but shall be assisting in the background. I attach the Aware membership application form for your use.”

Please see Attachments on some recent developments in Aware. Aware is a woman’s organization which conducts comprehensive sexual programmes for girls and it runs this programme in some of the schools. They encourage girls to express their full sexuality and this includes experimenting with other girls. It would be a good idea to join it and change its focus to other problems of women and families.
..Please ask your like-minded friends to join Aware so that you can give the vote to those who wish to be an agent of change for the Lord. They could also contribute to the activities of the oprganization as there is much to be done for women and families in this dowturn of the economy. Our nation needs your support and action very urgently!
AWARE is an organization that has existed in Singapore for many years.
It is a non-profit body dedicated to women’s advocacy and gender equality.
They protect women’s rights and help develop women to their fullest potential.
In the last few years, AWARE has aggressively become involved in gay
activism. Many members of their committee are pro-gay. They have even
conducted a sexual education programme in some schools that teach
young people that it is normal and alright to behave homosexually. They
have also screened a lesbian-themed movie Spider Lilies at a Charity Ball.
During this week, AWARE held an election of office bearers. This event saw
many of the pro-gay old guards losing their positions in the committee to new
faces. These new people do not share the values of the pro-gay old guards
and has caused much shock and rage to the latter group.
The pro-gay old guards are retaliating by calling for an Extraordinary General
Meeting where they intend to amend the Constitution to only allow members
who have been with AWARE for more than 2 years, to vote. If this change is
passed, then only the pro-gay old guards and their cohorts will have the
power to do what they want.
To prevent this from happening, we are calling on all responsible females
to sign up for membership with AWARE immediately, and also to attend this
all-important EGM so as to vote against changing the Constitution.
If you are male and have received this petition, please pass it to as many
responsible females as you know and encourage them to sign up for
membership with AWARE so as to vote against any changes to their
Constitution.
The date for the EGM has yet to be announced but it should be soon.
Membership fees are $40 for adult females and $5 for female fulltime students below
the age of 25. Please print the attached softcopy of the membership form,
fill in the details (no need to tell who referred you), mail the form with your cheque.

So they have finally come out to admit what the intention/agenda of taking over Aware as perceived by the old guard and concerned members. The “pirate chief” to coin, Yawning Bread’s description of this whole episode has finally the guts or cheek to appear? why? is it because Ms Lau is now unable to handle this matter anymore without uttering further lies, and hiding the original instigator?
What a disgrace to Christians in general… making outright lies in public about their intention from the start. Really unimaginable.. lies after lies? Is that what they teach at the COOS, tell lies if it is necessary to protect (hide) your agenda?
If Thio SM is believing that what she is planning to do is “noble” – to save the world from the gays and the homsexuals, that why hide behind a facade and claim to have no agenda. What type of mentor or role model is she? We can have less of such people without an impact on our society.
AWARE is a secular organisation for Christ’s sake. Who does she think she is? God Alimighty herself? rendering judgement? Judgement is reserved for the throne of God on judgement day, not some critter like Thio SM.
Insidious – such a large amount of scheming and plotting…
Makes you wonder who’s the “good” guy and who’s the “bad”…sheesh
Soojenn – transparency is the key word here. Everything we do in life is guided by our beliefs and dare i say agendas. We are human afterall.
The Old Guard protected their own agenda but got sloppy and left their front door open.
The New Guard were driven by their agenda but foolishly closed all of theirs but forgot to draw their window shades.
Perhaps if they had been open of their affiliations from the start and sort to engender change through dialogue whilst including all old AWARE members, a more amicable outcome could have emerged.
Ultimately, all – Old and New AWARE – are the losers.
xtrocious – the scheming and plotting is indeed deplorable.
The EOGM will indeed be a spectacle.
Next step should be flushing out ALL external connections of this COOS…particularly if they have stronger backing like closet members in the form of other political figures like MPs and grassroot leaders. The interests of gays and AWARE do not concern me directly, but I know very well that I cannot allow the fundies to take this one.

I don’t go to COOS, can’t take the “atmosphere”. I attend New Creation, yes..liberal..but honest. No goody two shoes there. Our pastor drives a BMW 6, and is not “pretending” to be holy. I respect that.
… be resolved by going after the real threat? Yes. I guess in a society that wants to remain uninvolved, the “real threat” is a combination of those who speak up, manipulate, versus those who just don’t want to get involved. Sigh.
That’s why these terrible things can happen.
I am not a quiet guy. And trust me that I will not simply sit and watch.

Please don’t start a “witch hunt”. I TOTALLY disagree, and dislike the methods of the new aware team.
I am TOTALLY not in favor of the way COOS does things, and these emails above are simply terrible. They reek of treachery, subversion etc etc.
However, my own business partners attend COOS, and they do not support these stupid actions.
Dr Alan Chin may do so. I don’t.
But “flushing out”, will hurt innocent people who are on the side of freedom for all folks beliefs.
Its just my fear.

If what you say is true, why isn’t anybody that attends the COOS ‘coming out’ to offer dissenting views? except you of course. Maybe they are hesitant to go against their figures of authority, maybe not. Also considering the nature and stance of the COOS, surely you can find a more suitable church, any just as conservative but possibly more intelligent.
The witchhunt will go on as long as they continue their shady behavior, and it doesn’t have to be carried out by any particular person.

What the old & new exco did, doing and going to do shall be for us to see and for all to judge. I do not take sides but when I come to know of something that is not right, I shall care to voice out my displeasure.
Members’ behaviour and conduct will affect the organization. If I see a contradiction of personal doing of any AWARE member that is against that the organization advocates. I would feel that the member need to be removed in order not to contaminate the organization and the rest of the team members.
If AWARE was setup to protect woman’s welfare, well-being and rights, then why would it allow its member to do things that hurt woman, insult woman, bully woman? For this part, the old team is disappointing.
Will anyone agree to let a trainer from AWARE for sex education to go to the schools & libraries to give talks to the young, telling them that being faithful in a relationship is a fallacy? As the trainer emphasized that being faithful do not protect one from getting HIV/STD, however using a simple protection (condoms) is more reliable than being faithful?
How would the teenagers react if they found out that their sex education trainer depends on the use condoms to prevent HIV & STD RATHER THAN to protect oneself based on basic human moral & ethic? Will parents respect AWARE if this is the case?
It is a let down that the old AWARE contain such a member.
