The SMRT debacle continues…

10 May

I have following the SMRT hearings and with every news article my blood just seems to boil hotter. The amount of decay and rot in SMRT and LTA is just mind numbing. Is this the Singapore standard? World best and can do spirit that we always market ourselves with? Uniquely Singapore indeed!!

Andrew Barr, a foreign expert witness “began his presentation to the committee by saying that the recommendations were “fairly common sense and not rocket science”.

Revelation: Common sense was precisely what was lacking in Saw Piak Wah and her team. Yet Singaporeans paid millions for their salaries.

“Mr Tan expressed concern that if people knew that the train lines were running for free, the service may be abused and this may lead to even more people clogging up the network. ”

Mr Vincent Tan, Senior VP of SMRT, should have his head checked or resign from SMRT as I don’t know which planet he plucked the idea that commuters would want to curi (steal) a free train ride when the lines are broken just so they can get trapped in the tunnel for hours.

I will post more when I get by organising my notes and thoughts. Read my earlier piece on getting the SMRT delisted here.

On the previous day of COI hearings:

Straits Times dated 9 May

Asked by Deputy State Counsel how LTA monitors strict maintenance standards, LTA’s Deputy Director for Transit Regulation Soo Weng Tuck, replied that SMRT follows a code of practice. Asked again who ensures compliance or makes sure this is followed, Mr Soo replied it is responsibility of SMRT to comply and they only audit “track infrastructure”.

So SMRT, as a profit maximising listed company is left to monitor itself and makes sure it complies with the strict maintenance standards with nearly no oversight from LTA who doesn’t even know of the claw problem that existed since 1987.

I wonder if the people running LTA would leave their kids on their own to play with fire crackers or doors unlocked while they went Europe for a holiday, cuz that’s what they just did for Singaporeans.

u r damn right LTA needs a shake up. clowns like yam ah mee and raymond lim should be publicly reprimanded for their mismanagement. one is happily semi-retired earning millions in his cushy private sector job. the other basking in the limelight of his new found fame with PA. world class transport system? world class jokers indeed.

makes sense to delist and make sure profits are ploughed back to society or renewing of infrastructure. Boost staff salaries also.

Doesn’t Mr Soo remind you of an evil character from HK movies like Shi Jian? 🙂
