Another cheap thrill: lasses from The Freshman

15 May

Yeah…what’s new…another cheap thrill that I so wanna share with people so free to read my ramblings. Ok, I have to confess, I do enjoy cheena pop once in a while despite all the rock and alt I listen to, especially local acts or older stuff. Stuff that my aunties or older cousins would listen to when I was growing up in a much bigger house.

The Freshman or 插班生. They caught my eye they appeared on the Singapore Arts Festival 2012 brochure where they will be performing a free-to-air gig on 30 May. And they were featured on today’s TODAY where their new album was rated 4 out of 5 stars.

Check out their song 逞强 on Youtube:

And another light-hearted sounding tune called 小动作

Not any worse than those Taiwanese stuff that gets churned out every summer; and even better I would say. Their voices are beautiful in unison and they hit those sweet high notes like it was breeze.

And their new song is equally as fantastic. Check it out here. TODAY calls it a “delightful tune, with a clever syncopated break, offering just the right touch of whimsy.”

Support original, support local. If they whim your fancy, get a copy of their album on their website, share their videos and share their beautiful voices.
